For 2027 entry, Pearson’s school nomination is due October 9, 2026, followed by the university application on October 16 and scholarship documents on November 6. UBC International Scholars applicants must meet the November 15, 2026 admission and award deadline. Dates are application milestones, not promises of an award. The doctoral agency’s published annual deadline is October 17, with a next-business-day rule when it falls on a weekend; that makes the 2026 direct-agency deadline October 19 at 8 p.m. ET. Most applicants must follow an earlier university process. Ask your graduate awards office which route applies.

More than six scholarships are available

The first six rows highlight large awards with urgent or program-specific deadlines, but they are not a complete list. UBC IMES, Waterloo’s international entrance scholarship, McGill major entrance scholarships, CGRS Master’s and Alberta’s Graduate Excellence Scholarship are additional verified options. Some are automatic or institution-administered, so their “deadline” is the admission deadline or an internal university cutoff rather than a national date.

Universities also maintain faculty and donor-funded awards with different program, citizenship and financial-need rules. Use the official award database for each institution after applying, and do not assume an award is open for 2027 because it appeared in a previous-year list.

September 2026: confirm your category and ask for references

For McCall MacBain, the September deadline covers students and graduates of Canadian or US universities, as well as Canadians abroad. Other international university applicants had an August deadline. A candidate’s current university can therefore matter alongside citizenship. Confirm the category on the official application page, request references now and allow time to correct missing documents.

Doctoral applicants should ask their department for its internal nomination deadline immediately. A national deadline is not an extension of a university’s earlier cutoff. For awards without a published date, record “not yet announced” or “department deadline required” in your calendar rather than copying last year’s date.

October 2026: Pearson nomination and university admission

Pearson has separate school, admission and scholarship stages. Ask your high school about its nomination process before October 9. Submit the University of Toronto admission application by October 16 and complete the scholarship material by November 6. Sending one application does not automatically satisfy the other steps.

The University of Toronto says using generative AI to compose undergraduate award applications is prohibited and may result in disqualification. Draft the Pearson application in your own words and follow the current integrity rules shown on the official scholarship page.

November 2026: complete UBC’s earlier scholarship application

UBC International Scholars uses November 15 for both admission and the award application. Its later general undergraduate admission deadline should not be used for this scholarship. The nominator and teacher referee forms must also be complete by November 15. Required admission documents and the English-language standard are due January 31, 2027. Prepare financial-need evidence and four essays early, then follow the award portal’s current instructions. Check time zones: a deadline expressed in Pacific time is not the same local clock time everywhere.

December 2026: a government award with restricted eligibility

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship—Master’s program offers $27,000 for twelve months and has a December 1 deadline before 8 p.m. ET. It is for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and protected persons who meet the other criteria. Holding an international study permit alone does not qualify you. Keep this separate from lists presented as universally open to international students.

Winter and spring 2027: follow program-specific decisions

Track graduate admission deadlines, scholarship decisions, deposit deadlines and funding acceptance separately. Some departmental awards are considered with admission and others require an additional form. Where the 2027 date is unpublished, ask the program and retain the reply. Avoid paying a deposit on the assumption that a pending scholarship will cover it.

What to put in your scholarship tracker

Keep one row per award with the degree level, applicant category, amount, duration, official URL, internal and external deadlines, time zone, referee status and submitted confirmation. Add personal reminders before the deadline so you can request corrections. Save the final application and receipt; a draft saved in a portal is not evidence that the application was submitted.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply after a deadline? Only the administrator can authorize an extension; do not assume one exists. Does an admission application count as a scholarship application? Sometimes, but Pearson and UBC illustrate why you must check. Are all large awards fully funded? No; a fixed amount can still leave a gap for tuition, rent, dependants or travel.
