Eligible Indian students can apply for major nationality-neutral awards such as Pearson, UBC International Scholars and McCall MacBain. Waterloo also publishes Faculty of Mathematics International Awards for India. Check the exact program, intake and applicant category: eligibility for Indian citizens does not mean every Indian applicant qualifies.

Choose by program, not nationality alone

University and degree-level rules usually matter more than citizenship. Waterloo’s India awards are tied to select Faculty of Mathematics programs. Pearson is for eligible international secondary-school students entering the University of Toronto. McCall MacBain is for eligible McGill master’s and professional programs and uses different deadlines based on where the applicant studies.

Deadlines for 2027 entry

Pearson’s school nomination is due October 9, 2026, followed by the U of T admission application October 16 and scholarship documents November 6. UBC International Scholars requires both applications by November 15. As of September 15, McCall MacBain’s other-international-university deadline has closed; the September 23 deadline applies only to its defined Canada/US university group and Canadians abroad.

Avoid outdated India scholarship lists

Do not assume that a corporate foundation, Indian ministry or bilateral organization funds study in Canada merely because an old article lists it. Confirm an open competition on the sponsor’s official site, including permitted institutions and fields. For Government of Canada opportunities, use EduCanada’s citizenship-based search and note that some programs are short-term exchanges submitted by a Canadian host institution rather than full-degree scholarships.

Prepare evidence and a realistic budget

Match transcripts, leadership evidence, references and financial documents to the published criteria. Convert deadlines to your local time, but keep the official time zone in your tracker. Compare the award with tuition, fees, housing, insurance, travel and currency risk; a high headline value may still leave a funding gap.

Do not use generative AI where an award prohibits it. The University of Toronto explicitly bars AI-composed undergraduate award applications.
