🍁 GuideCAN Quick Answer
Some Canadian college programs accept CELPIP, including Lambton’s diploma, certificate and graduate-certificate routes and Northwestern Polytechnic’s Health Care Aide program. The minimum score and scope of acceptance differ: a program-specific listing is not permission to use CELPIP for every course at that institution. Confirm the test version, individual scores and international admission route for your 2026/2027 intake.
Scroll the table sideways to compare all columns.
| Institution / program | Published CELPIP threshold | Scope and restriction |
|---|---|---|
| Lambton: diploma or certificate | 7 in each language skill | See international language requirements and approved testing methods |
| Lambton: graduate certificate | 8 in each language skill | Graduate certificate threshold is higher |
| Northwestern Polytechnic: Health Care Aide | CELPIP General: 7 overall; no section below 6 | Health Care Aide only; not a blanket college policy |
This is a short verified list, not an exhaustive list of Canadian institutions. It deliberately separates credential-level acceptance from a single-program exception. The test provider’s institutional directory can help you find other leads, but the institution’s current program policy should decide whether you book or submit a test.
Lambton College: check your credential level
Use Lambton’s international language policy alongside the page for your chosen program. Record the required score for every skill and confirm the accepted test format. Do not reuse the lower diploma threshold for a graduate-certificate application. Academic admission, seat availability and other document requirements still apply even when your language scores meet the minimum.
Northwestern Polytechnic: Health Care Aide restriction
Northwestern Polytechnic lists CELPIP General for Health Care Aide only. Its other program groups list different English evidence, so this entry should not be used to claim CELPIP acceptance for computer science, nursing or every diploma. Confirm that the program also accepts your applicant category and has an available intake before paying an application fee.
What about Niagara and other colleges?
Niagara’s published international language table lists alternatives including Duolingo, TOEFL and PTE, but does not list CELPIP in the version reviewed for this guide. That is not a basis for promising CELPIP admission. For any other college, search its official language requirements and contact admissions if the test is absent or the wording is unclear.
CELPIP General, score validity and reporting
Match the exact test requested by the institution; do not assume a similarly named version is interchangeable. Check the age limit on results, how official scores must be delivered and whether results must still be valid when the program begins. Ask how the institution handles retakes or multiple score reports instead of combining your best individual scores yourself.
Questions to send to admissions
Include your full program name, campus, intake, applicant status and test version. Ask: “Will you accept this CELPIP result for this program? What minimum is required in each skill? How recent must it be, and how should I submit it?” If a representative confirms an exception, retain that written reply and check whether the admissions portal needs additional evidence.
Admission and immigration use are separate
IRCC lists CELPIP General among accepted English tests for PGWP language evidence, but that does not force a college to accept it for admission. Likewise, acceptance by a college does not guarantee PGWP eligibility. Check IRCC’s requirements independently and plan for the language evidence needed at the time you apply.
Frequently asked questions
Do all Canadian colleges accept CELPIP? No. Is an overall 7 sufficient everywhere? No; institutions can require a higher level or minimum scores in each skill. Can a college add or remove an accepted test? Policies can change, so use the current official requirements for your intake rather than a third-party list alone.
